I wrote this because ActiveSync backs up only items such as Note, Contacts,
Schedules, etc...but sometimes we'd like to save our MMS as well as SMS and for
the real business-y- people their Call Logs and Speed Dial lists.
This is a comprehensive guide on how to backup your SMS, MMS, Call Log, and
Speed Dial information only.
- Click on Start---Programs---and Launch the iPAQ Backup
- Click on Options--Switch to Advance Mode (image1,

- Once in Advance Mode uncheck the PocketPC (image3)
- Expand the "Email" set (image4)
- Place a check mark in "MMS" and "SMS" (image4)
- Collapse the "Email" set by taping on the minus sign next to it
- Expand the "Personal Databases" set (image5)
- Expand the "Phone Databases" set under "Personal Databases" (image6)
- Place a check mark in "Call Log" and "Speed Dials" (image7)
- Collapse the "Personal Databases" set by taping on the minus sign next
to it
- Tap on the ... (image8)
- Select a location for where you like to store your backup (I saved mine
on my storage card - image9,

- Tap OK then Tap Backup
- Now Tap Start to begin backup (image11)
- Once backup is completed Tap OK (image12)
- Now the backup software will ask you to perform a soft reset by selecting
OK (image13)
To setup an automated Backup routine do the following
- Click on Start---Programs---and Launch the iPAQ Backup
- Click on Options--Switch to Advance Mode (image1,
image2)
- Once in Advance Mode Tap on Options and select "Scheduled Backup" (image3)
- Place a Check in "Enable Scheduled Backup and set a time as well as a
frequency (image4)
- Tap OK
To do an automatic backup if your battery is low so you won't loose any info
when your device goes dead
- Click on Start---Programs---and Launch the iPAQ Backup
- Click on Options--Switch to Advance Mode (image1,
image2)
- Once in Advance Mode Tap on Options and select "Battery Monitoring" (image3)
- Place a check in "Monitor the battery life of this device" and whatever
else you like (image4)
- Choose a location of your backup and tap OK
*Note* for Automatic Backup and Battery Monitoring you must specify in
advance what you would like to backup in the Advance Menu (image)
